THE SWEET SPOT

YOU’VE BUILT A CREATIVE CAREER,

BUT IT STILL DOESN’T FEEL LIKE YOU’VE DONE YOUR BEST WORK

A private coaching experience that helps established performers and creatives stop second-guessing their instincts, make bolder creative decisions, and consistently produce work they're proud to put in front of audiences, collaborators and industry decision-makers.

You’ve done the festival run. Maybe received an award. Most likely, got an agent.

Had real tastes of success.

But there is quiet grief too, because you sense there have been moments when you could have reached - for more vivid expression, or a more adventurous pitch - but instead you shrank.

And the shrinking cost you.

Those moments when you hesitated or judged a job, when you didn’t fully commit to the most ambitious delivery, they became opportunities that passed you by.  Maybe even opportunities you then watched other people capitalise on.

It’s a tricky place to be, managing this kind of semi-failure.

From the outside - you’re making creative work, making your way in a very challenging industry. Everyone tells you how grateful you should be. It’s this emotional contrast you’re navigating that often becomes problematic.

Because you are grateful and you know you could feel better.

You could push the work further. You could refine your process. You could build a meaningful audience more actively.

None of this is for the sake of fame but because it’s natural to share creative work.

Because the ideas keep knocking.

Because the industry has been and continues to be, full of contradiction.

There’s never been more opportunity to connect directly to an audience.

There’s never been more noise, either.

Staying centered enough to truly become the authority of your own work while also figuring out how to make the most of this opportunity, is the challenge.

The Sweet Spot is an idea borrowed from several performance philosophies.

It’s about locating the place you work from that produces the greatest result, while preparing you for the impact.

First we confront the successes and failures, both obvious and subtle - to figure out where there are stories lingering that are cluttering your energy and therefore, your process.

Then we focus on a specific project or idea, to develop it. Iterate on it.

Then you hit it out the park.

“As someone who juggles creative freelance work with a full time job, I struggled to tap into the parts of myself needed to produce good work from a real place because it so often felt like switching lanes. I had been working on my book proposal for 5 years without ever having been able to complete it. Guided sessions with Portia alongside taking the flower essences over the course of the past year has helped me recalibrate and open up space that felt blocked and detached. Practically this meant I was able to focus and lean in. I found momentum, completed my proposal but also tapped into what I really wanted to say - and got the publishing deal I wanted.”

YOUR COACH

I spent over a decade struggling creatively. I worked consistently on both personal and professional projects. I crewed on a £200 million box office juggernaut and multiple low-budget nightmares. I studied the craft of direction from many angles and felt my skills improve as a result. I had proof that my instincts were good. Yet, I continued to trip myself up. There was so much effort, so much devotion, but very little fulfilment.

Over time, I realised I had internalised the belief that creative work was supposed to be difficult. That struggle was proof of care and commitment. That struggle would create great art. Except it didn’t. Because the struggle was keeping me outside of my own authority, preventing me from delivering the most confident, distinctive work possible.

There was not a single, fork-in-the road, ‘rock bottom’ moment. Instead, a quiet, persistent belief that surely, another way was possible. The creative work continued. The inner work happened along side. And then, there was a turning point. I discovered flower essences, a vibrational tool that helped me clear years of mental and emotional baggage. Their impact was so undeniable that I trained as a Holistic Practitioner. I now have my advanced qualification and am fully insured.

I changed my relationship with the work, and honestly, everything else changed too.

I experience clarity and honestly, enjoyment, in the creative process now - but there’s more. I have a felt sense of my own personal authority. My decision making is more precise. My sense of humour surfaces more often. I feel much more agility where previously, I was rigid.

The methodology I use today grew from this experience. It's the result of years spent refining both the creative process and the inner relationship that shapes it. I don't believe in suffering-for-worthiness programmes or the false binaries encouraged by a capitalistic approach to creative work. I believe creativity can be deeply ambitious without being punishing.

At my core, I do what I've always done. I listen deeply and help people uncover what's really getting in their way. I recognise talent and seek out the best ways to encourage it. Now, I also have language, concepts and tools that can be shared, to help others navigate the path for themselves.

“Portia has an in depth knowledge of both flower essences and the nature a career in the arts, and the combination is transformative! I was blown away by Portia's accurate insights into my current situation, and her ability to tease out areas where I was feeling stuck. She gave heartfelt guidance into moving forward, was supportive and warm in session, and the flower essences follow through with even more support. I'd recommend Portia in a heartbeat - she's so special!”
