Almost all artists and innovators expect themselves to move forward without taking the time to fully assess what they’ve just experienced.
This is because what’s happened is never ‘one’ thing. It’s usually a combination of both nice and nasty surprises - and crucially - because it’s rare to find a space where you can actually appraise the full range of your experience in a productive, structured way.
But when you don’t unpack, there’s a big likelihood that the experience becomes baggage. This is a load you carry with you - and, unchecked, it makes you liable to rush, to default out to the safest route or to freeze and lose momentum all together.
